COLLECTIONS CORE
At the American Museum of Natural History
Part of the all new $431 million dollar Gilder Center addition to the American Museum of Natural History, the Collections Core exhibit covers three floors and displays hundreds of objects.
The exhibit attempts to answer questions like why do museums collect anyway? What does this museum have? What do they do with it?
My first role on the project was was in story development; I researched and compiled dozens of stories about dozens of objects. Later, I was hired to write the labels and digital content for four arrays: trilobites, ammonites, dinosaur vertebrae, and corals & echinoderms.
The trilobites label is below.
A bonus image showing what my cubicle looked like while I was working to explore basically every story we could possibly tell with each object. Yes, there’s color coding and no, this was nowhere near the end point.
